Whilst going about my normal day and ordering my Oreo milkshake I got complimented on my hair and was asked how I manage to get it so blonde. It felt good giving some advice and thought I’d share my secrets with my readers!
1. Good Salon & Good Stylist - I know some people think that it’s ok to do it at home and sometimes you can get away with it. If you’re anything like me though however, I’m terrified of it going a nasty shade of pink or something. Therefore I get it done at a salon
I’ve been going to the same salon ‘Arena Hair’ for nearly a year now and every-time I see the finished product I’m happy with it. Don’t be concerned if it takes some time before you find a stylist/salon that is right for you. Let’s face it, you’re the one that’s going to have to live with the results for the next 4-6 weeks.
It’s got to be done right
2. Get it toned! - No, I’m not talking about your abs here, I’m talking about the product that needs to be left on your head to get that SUPER WHITE look. If a stylist doesn’t tone your hair after they’ve washed the bleach out, you know they’re doing something wrong. The reason ice-blondes need to tone their hair is because you want to cancel out all the yellow and brassy tones. This leaves you with hair even celebs might be a little jealous of.
3. Look After it - Ok, so you now have the best hair you could imagine but that isn’t going to last if you don’t look after it. For this you need a purple shampoo. No, not because it looks good but because of the science behind it.
If you wash your with any normal shampoo the chances are that silky peroxide is going to turn into a cheesy yellow. Because purple is at the opposite end of the colour spectrum to yellow, the purple tones cancel out the brassy ones, allowing you to have luscious blonde locks for longer! Personally I use John Frieda and highly recommend it.
4. It doesn’t last forever - Everyone who dyes their hair hates it when they see their natural roots coming through. This is the ultimate downside of going ice-blonde, not only does it take a lot of maintenance it requires your roots being done every 4-6 weeks. It varies from person to person, the chances are though you’re going to be wanting them done more or less every month.
Ultimately though, if you want to do it… GO FOR IT. It’s a striking colour, and you’ll be sure to love it!
