Hello Lincoln, it’s good to be back.

imageMy nose is cold, my feet a numb and my hands are finding it difficult to write this. Winter has well and truly arrived. Like many Brits, I am one of those who turns hysterical as soon as the first flake of snow falls on the floor - usually out of excitement. However, I feel it’s a little too late. A month earlier and Christmas may have felt even more Christmassy than it was.

It feels good being back in Lincoln! Yesterday was my first lecture, but seen as how the tutor failed to show, it meant an obvious Starbucks trip was in order. My first workshop of 2013 did go ahead; The Journalist on Screen. I was probably a bit optimistic to be hoping for The Devil Wears Prada, Confessions of a Shopaholic and Sex and The City. Saying that, our first film was The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest which was surprisingly good. I’m thinking I’ll pop the reviews up on here once my tutor has looked at them. Films about journalists really are quite good, even if it isn’t Sex and the City.

imageSpeaking of films, I saw Les Miserables on Monday and oh my word, it’s one of the best films I have ever seen. Having seen the musical in summer last year I was sceptical as to whether it could live up to the stage version. But it did, and them some. It’s definitely going to be the film of the year, everyone is talking about it and singing the songs… You just have to go! Oh, and if you leave and don’t feel compelled to learn every song, lyric by lyric, there is something extremely wrong with you.

Possibly the best thing about being back in Cathedral City is seeing everyone. A lot of my family and friends back home have said how much I’m going to miss Lincoln once I graduate. I don’t see it that way. Instead, I know I’ll miss all the amazing people I’ve met and Lincoln just won’t be the same without them.

If you’ve never been to Lincoln before, you have to visit. Seriously. It looks stunning in the summer, with an array of restaurants that sit along the Brayford (big river thing), the quirky shops and beautiful architecture. Despite some city’s which look ugly in the winter, Lincoln is the complete opposite. It takes on another life of its own.

I should be thankful I live in one of the best cities in the world. At least in my eyes anyway.

Jane-a-Day.

This happens to be one of the best Christmas presents I received last year. Every day, for five years, I write a little passage - no longer than three lines - about what I’ve done that day.

It’s going to be interesting to find out where I am in five years time. Watch this space.

Channelling my inner Bridget Jones. There really is something quite delicious about writing the first words in a journal. I wonder what story it will tell over the next 365 days?

When In Rome.

Returning to the UK having spent 5 glorious days in Rome has made me realise how much I miss my home country, but how I loath the weather.

If I take you back to Monday arriving at the airport is where the holiday starts. Spending time eyeing goods in duty free (which we later found would be cheaper on feelunique.com) and boarding the plane only made me ever more excited. Once we finally landed the first thing I noticed was the heat. Not the stuffy uncomfortable heat like Britain, but continental heat - comfortable heat.

If there’s one thing I learnt on our journey to that hotel it’s that Italians cannot drive, at all. I even questioned whether they had to pass a driving test, it seems they do after all. Our hotel was located to the East of Rome, and luckily wasn’t in the tourist area. It was quaint and had everything we wanted. We communicated with the maid by laughing and smiling due to the language barrier and became a mascot at the Columbia Hotel for us.

All the hard work is done.

I can’t actually believe it. All those hours spent writing essays, all the sheets of paper printed off and all that’s left are 3 completed assignments. Proud moment. My radio portfolio contains everything I have done over the year and I am genuinely so impressed with everything in there, including all the hard work from our group projects. I am working on my online portfolio to put up on my blog, so hopefully you’ll be able to see some of my work soon!

My other two assignments that I finished were a Public Administration essay, and History essay, the history one, I actually enjoyed. If you’re reading this Miss Soltysik, the question I chose was about the media’s role of changing women’s aspirations during the sixties - I know she’d be so proud.

Plan of action? Well, I have one exam at the end of May so I’ll be sure to get plenty of revision done for that. Apart from the exam, I’m hoping to have a well deserved break… I need to go to some mad parties which I know will definitely make me feel better.

Anyway… My tummy is rumbling so I think it’s either fish and chips or KFC for tea tonight - treat seen has how I’ve been chained to this desk for the past week.

Take care and lots of love to you all, hope April has treated you well.

2012. A time for new beginnings.

I love the first day of the year, there’s something really liberating about it, almost like you’ve been given another chance to prove yourself to the world for another 12 months. Last night was sheer bliss, there really isn’t any other way to describe it. My Queens: Kate and Ruth welcomed had an informal gathering before the clock stroke 12.

Having wrote all of our dreams, hopes and goals on pieces of paper and midnight we set them alight - to shine their torch over the next year. As we were writing things down, we realised how good 2011 actually was. I have God to thank for that. After the clock made it’s annual ‘Ding-dongs’ (yes, I’m still a child) Kate and I sat inside and feasted on Heston Blumenthal’s black forest ‘Buché’… I know some think the only way of welcoming in the new year is drinking a swimming pool full of Vodka and paying for it the following morning but I think differently. Sometimes I think if you have good company it doesn’t matter what you do.

Today has also been simply divine. Myself and Kate went to what we know to be the best Chinese Restaurant in Nottingham: Mr Mans. The food there triumphs over every stingy all you can eat buffet and provides rich, fresh ingredients. After our meal we also went for a nice walk around Wollaton Park, one day I hope to live in a house just like it!

I remember a few months back I wrote about fresh starts, a new day can be a fresh start, the beginning of a week or month. But, the first day of a year is the ultimate new beginning, there’s only one thing for it - make it count.

End of Year review. Farewell 2011.

When the clock stroke midnight on January 1st 2011 I had no idea how my year would pan out. Who would’ve thought the past 12 months were set to be quite exciting.

First of all this year has treated me very well recreationally. I saw Katy Perry’s California Dream Tour and Alan Carr who was a bundle of laughs. I saw The Sound of Music in Nottingham and traveled down to London to The West End to see The Wizard of Oz.

There has also been some amazing films this year, including the final Harry Potter, penultimate Twilight and of course, Taylor Lautner’s Abduction. Having attended midnight premiers to Harry Potter and Breaking Dawn Part 1 I learnt that magic is still alive in my heart - no matter how old I am. Oh, and who could forget music? Born This Way has been my anthem for 2011 and probably will be into the first few months of 2012.

The past 365 days has also been a good year for trips with My Queens. Visiting the quaint little town of Matlock Bath, more shopping trips than I can count on my hands, feet and probably my dogs paws and I’ve had some fabulous meals… Including some not fabulous meals. This year has also seen my new obsession with Hollister, God I love their clothes. Why is it I’m attracted to three things: things that sparkle, things that look expensive and things that are expensive. These three principles apply to my day-to-day life - bad Christian I know.

I also celebrated my 19th Birthday in York with my family, such a beautiful place. If you haven’t been you have to make sure you go, it’s full of character and there’s something about it that makes you feel welcome as it embraces you in its historic arms. Not only that, I also did the impossible and passed my driving test and have now been driving on the roads legally for 2 weeks!

Academically this has been my year. Not only did I meet some very inspirational people including Angela Rippon and Belinda Goldsmith but I started my role as a reporter on the community radio station Siren FM. The other highlights have to be visiting Radio 1 - possibly the best experience of my life so far. Along with that, I was awarded for my academic achievements by Fiat UK and attended an awards ceremony at the Italian Embassy in London.

I’ve done all this and remained healthy and lived a wonderful year with the most amazing family and friends. For that I am eternally grateful for. I’ve learnt a lot about myself this year, and for those that say it’s impossible to keep New Years resolutions - they’re lying. This year I promised myself not to worry as much, and I’ve stuck by it!

Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2012 brings you a lot of happiness, health and prosperity.

With love,

Peter. x

Christmas - The most wonderful time of the year.

I don’t care what other people say, quite frankly Christmas is the one day where everything comes together, and for that one day I do nothing but smile and be happy (yes I know - very clique and corny). This Christmas has totally lived up to all its expectations, the beautiful dinner my Mum made, the exceptional gifts and truly wonderful company. I couldn’t have had a better day.

In the morning Mum, Dad and I got up and opened presents, they really did spoil me rotten. Then we had my Nan, Auntie and Uncle come over for Christmas lunch - where we eat far too much like everyone does. Then all snuggled up on the sofas and watched Sarah Millican’s new tour DVD. For those of you that haven’t seen it, it’s a must see - absolutely hilarious.

Yesterday was also a boxing day tradition visiting my Aunts in Peterborough. Again we over-indulged in some amazing food and unwrapped even more presents. I think it’s true when people say though that Christmas is so much better when there’s children about. My cousin is about to turn 2 next month and my God he’s absolutely adorable. The day was made just listening to him giggle and watch his facial expressions as he opened his mountain of presents.

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas too!

Lots of love,

Peter…x

Deadlines BE GONE

Once again I need to apologise for the lack of written posts recently. If you don’t hear from me in a while it’s not because I can’t be bothered, it’s because there are assignments to be done. I’m so happy because at 8:00pm today I finished all my work for Semester A of my second year of Uni. That includes: a 10 article portfolio, practical law assignment, Online Production portfolio, and radio portfolio. Looking back on it all now, I really can’t believe how much work I’ve done.

Right now I’m sat in my bed, having just eaten my entire body weight in McDonalds and watching The Devil Wears Prada (all time favourite film). I’m really looking forward to handing in my assignments in the morning, heading up steep hill to buy some Christmas presents and then to Starbucks for my gingerbread latte. Oh, and I’m coming home!

The problem with deadlines is they take so much of my time the whole world seems to stop. Even though it’s only 13 days until Christmas I haven’t brought a single present, sent out a single card or put up one decoration. I guess you can tell what that means I’ll be doing as soon as I get home!

I’ve got a pillow with my name on it and it wishes to be reacquainted with my head. Until tomorrow.

Never Give Up.

Anyone who says that dreams can never come true are wrong. As long as that dream is something you believe to be capable you can achieve it, never let anyone else tell you otherwise.

This week has possibly been the most exciting week of my academic life. First of all, my work debuted on our community radio station: Siren FM. I know it may not sound much but I now feel I’ve made my first steps into the wonderful world of broadcast. Not only am I getting amazing feedback from my tutors, but I have been awarded for my achievements by Fiat UK. This now means that I get to take a trip to the Italian Embassy in London later this year… I don’t think I could actually contain my excitement.

By starting this blog, I never want it to come across as being self-indlugent and big headed. I hope it hasn’t come across that way. Instead, I love the idea that there are some of you out there following my progress as my inspirations help me reach my aspirations to stardom.

Never forget, if you want to achieve something, then do it… no one else is stopping you. It may take a few hours, days, weeks, months or in my case years. Never give up.

My Amazon purchases have finally arrived!!!:

• Taylor Lautner Calendar (Necessity. Need to know which day we’re on and it’s offical.)

• Taylor Lautner FAME comic (Well, apparently they’re rare?)

• The Complete Mary Poppins. (It’ll look pretty on my book shelf. Has strong ornamental value)

• Hocus Pocus DVD. (It was £2! How could I refuse in all fairness? In fact how could anyone refuse?!)

• Journal 2011 (It’ll help me write my autobiography for when I’m rich and famous!)

So there. I can justify why I bought every item off Amazon. Proud moment in January.
